Football Recap: Hoopeston/Armstrong vs. Oakwood Comets

A win for Hoopeston/Armstrong just wasn't in the cards on Friday as the squad wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They were dealt a 54-16 defeat at the hands of the Oakwood Comets. Hoopeston/Armstrong lost against Oakwood in their previous head to head back in September of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 34-30 score last time.

Cole Miller and Ayden Larkin certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Miller picked up 54 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Larkin punched in a rushing score. Miller showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 54 yards.

It was another big night for Chase Harrison, who picked up 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 51 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries for Oakwood. Oakwood is 2-1 when Harrison posts two or more receiving touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Kyler Johnson handled things on the ground, rushing for 126 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Hoopeston/Armstrong's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Oakwood, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Hoopeston/Armstrong will host Clifton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oakwood, they will venture away from home to face off against Iroquois West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Iroquois West is coming into the contest with three straight defeats at home, meaning Oakwood will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
