Soccer Game Preview: Corning vs. Orland

The Corning Cardinals will face off against the Orland Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Corning sitting on five straight wins and Orland on three.

Corning is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Oroville a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Tigers are ranked 1075th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Orland sidestepped Las Plumas for a 1-0 victory. The Trojans' winning goal came courtesy of Issac Velasquez.

Corning pushed their record up to 7-1-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three contests. As for Orland, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3-1 record this season.

Corning beat Orland 3-1 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will Corning repeat their success, or does Orland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
