Recap: Excel Christian Academy Eagles vs. Sulphur Bluff Bears
The Excel Christian Academy Eagles lost against the Sulphur Bluff Bears last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Excel Christian Academy was dealt a 71-36 loss at the hands of Sulphur Bluff. While losing is never fun, Excel Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1501st, while Sulphur Bluff is ranked 698th).
When it comes to explaining why Excel Christian Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Kelley. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points. Kelley scored a full 36.1% of Excel Christian Academy's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nate Stapleton, who scored 5 points.
Sulphur Bluff's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Overly, who scored 14 points along with 5 assists. The contest was Overly's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Brody Gunn was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 12 rebounds and 3 steals.
Excel Christian Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Sulphur Bluff, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Excel Christian Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Prairiland at 4:00 p.m. on December 8th. As for Sulphur Bluff, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Whitewright at 6:40 p.m.
