West Catholic had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They never let the Union Red Hawks get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jordan Empie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Clinger, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sarah Goffer, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
West Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .684. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.
West Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Union, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
West Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Red Hawks: the pair will be back at it again later today.
