Foothill is a perfect 4-0 against Bishop O'Dowd since February of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Foothill Falcons will head out to take on the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Foothill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Foothill will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Berkeley on Friday. Foothill was the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over Berkeley.
Avana Vangipuram spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ellie Novitske, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. Eishita Singh also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Foothill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berkeley only posted an OBP of .269.
Meanwhile, on Friday Bishop O'Dowd's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against Carondelet. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by just one run.
Jaella Mercado was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tulip Barnes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Bishop O'Dowd's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their record is now 4-1-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Bishop O'Dowd struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill was able to grind out a solid win over Bishop O'Dowd when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Foothill since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
