Softball Recap: Cox Mill Drops Highest Score of Season Against West Cabarrus

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cox Mill). They put the hurt on the West Cabarrus Wolverines with a sharp 20-9 victory on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Chargers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Sienna Papineau was a standout: she scored four runs while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Myla Koonce, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Cox Mill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .463. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Cox Mill's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 2-13. As for West Cabarrus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cox Mill will venture away from home to square off against Mallard Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mavericks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.36 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for West Cabarrus, they are taking a road trip to face off against South Iredell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
