Foothill and Villa Park are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Foothill Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Villa Park Spartans at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Foothill will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Foothill barely beat El Dorado the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Foothill's pitchers stepped up to hand El Dorado a 7-0 shutout on Monday. The matchup marked the Knights' most dominant win of the season so far.
Kyle Telson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on AJ Nagler, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Green, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Foothill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Dorado only posted a batting average of .192.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Villa Park's offense. They fell just short of Cypress by a score of 1-0 on Monday. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Jake Nobles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Villa Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunner Santillo, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Santillo hit this season.
Foothill's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.75 runs across that stretch. As for Villa Park, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 5-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Foothill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Villa Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill beat Villa Park 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Foothill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Villa Park turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
