Basketball Game Preview: Ellwood City Wolverine vs. Aliquippa Quips

Ellwood City is 2-8 against Aliquippa since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ellwood City Wolverine will face off against the Aliquippa Quips at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Ellwood City took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Beaver Falls by a score of 76-63.

Ellwood City found their leader in sophomore Kaleb Servick, who went 5 for 12 en route to 21 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. Servick is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Chuckie Schweinsberg was another key player, putting up 14 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Aliquippa came tearing into Saturday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 60-47 win over the Pirates.

Ellwood City's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Aliquippa, they have also been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Ellwood City suffered a grim 57-31 defeat to Aliquippa when the teams last played back in January. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ellwood City was down 38-17.
