Softball Recap: LaBelle Comes Up Short

LaBelle extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 8-11. They lost 11-0 to the Avon Park Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in March.

As for Avon Park, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

For Avon Park's part, Paisley Macias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Macias has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Skylar Hicks was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Kamya Brassell, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Looking ahead, LaBelle will head out to challenge Riverdale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cowboys' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Avon Park, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Gibson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Devils will need to watch out since the Braves have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
