Volleyball Recap: Howards Grove Falls Short of Winneconne in the Playoffs

Howards Grove and Winneconne squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Howards Grove had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 3-2. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wolves 25-20 in the first set.

Howards Grove wouldn't go down easily and took Winneconne into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 15-13.

Natalie Carmody paced Howards Grove's offense, picking up 20 kills. Carmody got some help from Avery Sasche and her 41 assists. Sasche also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Kendall Cruz, each putting up four.

Winneconne found their leader in sophomore Hallah Josephson, who had 26 digs and three assists. Josephson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Howards Grove's loss dropped their record down to 22-13. As for Winneconne, they pushed their record up to 23-7 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home.

Howards Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Winneconne, they will face off against Xavier at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
