Basketball Game Preview: Firelands Falcons vs. Wellington Dukes

The Firelands Falcons will take on the Wellington Dukes at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Firelands has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Firelands fought the good fight in their overtime game against Lorain on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to the Titans. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (57), the Falcons still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wellington). They took down Columbia 50-35 on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Dukes who have now won three contests in a row.

Wellington's win came from a few key players Firelands will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brooke Lehmkuhl, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. Camryn Morris was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Wellington's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Firelands, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-2.

Firelands couldn't quite finish off Wellington when the teams last played back in January and fell 39-37. Can Firelands avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
