Softball Recap: Elma Eagles vs. Mt. Baker Mountaineers
It was a good run, but Elma unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Baker Mountaineers. Elma was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mt. Baker apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2015.
Aaleigha Weld led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Monroe, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Elma's loss dropped their record down to 7-2-1. As for Mt. Baker, the win for them keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Elma will head out on the road to face off against Rainier at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elma's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Rainier's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Baker, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-1 victory vs. Royal on the 13th.
