Softball Recap: Saint Joseph Gets the Win

Saint Joseph hadn't done well against St. Paul recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Jesters skirted past the Swordsmen 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Jesters: when they faced off against the Swordsmen last Monday, they had to take a 7-5 defeat.

Eris Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Morgan Mora was incredible, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Becerra, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Saint Joseph hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive contests.

Saint Joseph is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for St. Paul, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Coming up, St. Paul will host El Rancho at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Saint Joseph will be paying especially close attention to the Swordsmen's matchup: after the Swordsmen faces off against the Dons, they'll take on Saint Joseph again at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
