Baseball Game Preview: Rappahannock County vs. Madison County Mountaineers

Rappahannock County hasn't had much luck against Madison County recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Rappahannock County will challenge Madison County at 6:30 p.m.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Rappahannock County and Central Woodstock meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Rappahannock County fell 5-1 to Central Woodstock. That's two games in a row now that Rappahannock County has lost by exactly four runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison County). They blew past Stonewall Jackson 12-0 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mountaineers with their most commanding win of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Madison County and bumps their season record up to 3-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Rappahannock County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Rappahannock County couldn't quite finish off Madison County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Rappahannock County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
