Recap: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans
This season hasn't been kind to The Chaparral Wolverines, who are still winless after their ninth matchup. They took a serious blow against Fountain-Fort Carson on Friday, falling 35-6. Chaparral has struggled against Fountain-Fort Carson recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Beckett Bacon threw for 81 yards on eight of 22 attempts. Jake Harris was his top target, picking up 52 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Gerik Ashford rushed for 31 yards.
Fountain-Fort Carson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mathias Price, who rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Price is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Keits , who rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Chaparral's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-3 Pine Creek and 6-3 Legend (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.7% over those games). As for Fountain-Fort Carson, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chaparral will take on Pine Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine Creek presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Chaparral in Colorado (Pine Creek is ranked fifth, while Chaparral is ranked 113th). As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they will be playing at home against Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Albert Medina and Price.
