The Eastern Ramblers will head out on the road to face off against the Mount Vernon Majors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Eastern managed to slip by McKinley Tech the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Ramblers came up short against the Trainers on Wednesday, falling 13-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Finnian Burns got Eastern off to a strong start despite the final result, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Burns a new career-low in walks (zero).
On the hitting side, Lucas Campbell made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology.
Mount Vernon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Torres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Ian Hamilton also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Eastern, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eastern has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount Vernon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
