Baseball Recap: Dane Godar and Chase Butler Secure Win for Civic Memorial

Civic Memorial barely beat Granite City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 6-0 shutout on Saturday. The Eagles have beaten the Warriors the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.

Civic Memorial let Chase Butler and Dane Godar run wild. Butler went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Godar went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Butler is becoming a predictor of Civic Memorial's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Jacob Flowers was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Civic Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Granite City, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Civic Memorial will square off against Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Granite City, they will face off against Althoff Catholic at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
