Basketball Game Preview: Edinburg North Cougars vs. San Benito Greyhounds

The Edinburg North Cougars will challenge the San Benito Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Edinburg North challenged Edinburg on Tuesday. Edinburg North took a blow against Edinburg, falling 66-30. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 916th, while the Bobcats are ranked 429th).

Despite their defeat, Edinburg North saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Yaneth Salinas, who posted 12 points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Salinas continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Josselyn Quintanilla was another key player, putting up eight points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Edinburg North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. This was only their 18th loss (out of 31 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, San Benito beat Los Fresnos 50-46 on Thursday.

San Benito's victory bumped their record up to 22-13. As for Edinburg North, their loss dropped their record down to 14-21.

Edinburg North suffered a grim 58-35 defeat to San Benito in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Edinburg North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
