Basketball Recap: Canyon Comes Up Short

Canyon lost against Clemens back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Canyon Cougars came up short against the Clemens Buffaloes, falling 72-52. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 535th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 120th).

Christian Dupree continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Clemens, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Dupree a new career-high in assists (six). Letrell Hoover was another key player, going 5 for 6 on his way to 15 points.

Canyon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-19 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Clemens, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-11.

Canyon has already played their next game, a 100-60 defeat against East Central on the 31st. As for Clemens, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-40 victory against Johnson on the 31st.
