Soccer Game Preview: La Vega vs. Lumberton

The La Vega Pirates will square off against the Lumberton Raiders on Thursday. La Vega will be looking to extend their current 20-game winning streak.

La Vega is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Almeta Crawford. Three seems to be a good number for La Vega as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Lumberton had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.4 goals) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Tigers. Given Lumberton's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Sealy are ranked 546th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Andrew Hansen was the driving force of Lumberton's attack as he scored both of Lumberton's goals, bringing his season total up to 38 goals.

Lumberton's win bumped their record up to 16-5-2. As for La Vega, their victory bumped their record up to 21-1.
