Football Recap: Piedmont Takes a Loss

After flying high against Aragon last Friday, Piedmont came back down to earth. The Highlanders took a 40-26 bruising from the Arroyo Dons on Friday. The Highlanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Despite the loss, Piedmont still got an impressive performance from Xavier Henderson, who rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Henderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

Arroyo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Donald Buckley out in front who rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Jonah Shelton, who rushed for 58 yards and one score.

Piedmont now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Arroyo, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Piedmont will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hayward at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Highlanders will be up against the Farmers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Arroyo, they have already played their next game, a 48-6 win against Davis Sr. on the 3rd.
