Burbank hasn't had much luck against Burroughs recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will host the Bears at 6:00 p.m. Burbank is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
Burbank had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Glendale on Monday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Nitros with a sharp 13-1 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Kayla Orozco made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Samantha Cafferty was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Updike, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Burbank kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.
Thousand Oaks typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Burroughs proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Lancers 3-2.
Chloe Centeno was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Karlee Earl was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Burroughs has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Burbank, they pushed their record up to 8-11-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Burbank couldn't quite get it done against Burroughs when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
