MaxPreps Top 50 high school football scores: Don Bosco Prep upsets No. 18 Bergen Catholic on final play of the game

No. 31 St. Xavier wins first state title since 2016 after dominant victory over No. 11 Pickerington Central.

The biggest upset of the weekend came in New Jersey as Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey) beat No. 18 Bergen Catholic (Oradell) 21-20 on the final play of the game. On fourth and six from the Crusaders 26 Jake Robbins found Ethan Acevedo with no time left on the clock to pull out the one point victory.

No. 31 St. Xavier (Cincinnati) made a statement against the defending Ohio Division 1 state champs, No. 11 Pickerington Central (Pickerington) and cruised to a one-sided 44-3 win. It was the Bombers fourth state title in school history and first since 2016.  

The Ohio Division 2 state championship is set after No. 19 Archbishop Hoban (Akron) beat Avon 28-14 and No. 34 Washington (Massillon) took down the defending state champs, No. 50 La Salle (Cincinnati) 14-10. The state title game will be on Nov. 20 at Fortress Obetz.

The only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup was in Texas as No. 9 Duncanville's defense shined against Kaidon Salter and No. 21 Cedar Hill in a 28-14 win to claim the district title. Salter finished the night completing 13-of-30 passes for 133 yards and was held to seven yards rushing. Malachi Medlock had a monster night on the ground for the Panthers rushing for 182 yards and he accounted for three total touchdowns.



No. 6 Thompson (Alabaster) rolled past No. 43 Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) in the second round of the Alabama 7A state playoffs to advance to the semifinals. They won 42-16 and will face No. 33 Hoover on Nov. 20 with a spot in the state championship game on the line.

No. 17 Allen (Texas) had one of the most impressive wins of the week beating No. 30 Denton Guyer (Texas) 56-38. The Eagles extended their regular season win streak to 80 and finished the night with 342 yards rushing.

No. 15 Northwestern (Miami) and No. 38 American Heritage (Plantation) both won and will face off in the third round of the Florida 5A state playoffs on Nov. 20.

No. 5 Chandler and No. 24 Hamilton (Chandler) both won setting up a Top 25 showdown on ESPNU next Friday with the winner getting the top-seed in the Arizona Open Division playoffs that begin on Nov. 27.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Top 10 toughest postseason brackets

Both semifinal matchups in the Utah 6A bracket were on Thursday and No. 7 Corner Canyon (Draper) rolled past East (Salt Lake City) 45-30 to advance to the state championship game. Jaxson Dart broke Cammon Cooper's single-season state record throwing his 59th touchdown pass in the first quarter. He finished the afternoon with five touchdowns through the air and added another score on the ground. Dart's total is up to 63 touchdown passes on the year now.



They will face No. 41 Lone Peak (Highland) on Nov. 20 at Dixie State University in the 6A state championship. The Knights outscored Skyridge (Lehi) 21-7 in the second half and won 28-24.
