Baseball Game Preview: Garden Spot Spartans vs. Manheim Central Barons

Garden Spot is 2-8 against Manheim Central since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Barons at 4:15 p.m.

On Monday, Garden Spot came up short against Donegal and fell 4-1.

Ryder Hertzler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Garden Spot saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Speers, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Manheim Central entered their tilt with Eastern Lebanon County on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Raiders. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Chase Book and Cody Hess did most of the damage at the plate: Book went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Hess scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Hess has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hunter Garber, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Manheim Central now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Garden Spot, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
