Baseball Game Preview: Westerly Bulldogs vs. South Kingstown Rebels

Westerly hasn't had much luck against South Kingstown recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 4:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Westerly 3.1, South Kingstown 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Westerly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Smithfield, who was ranked fifth at the time (Westerly was ranked seventh). The Bulldogs fell just short of the Sentinels by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since June 2, 2024.

Jack Zerbarini made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Smithfield typically has all the answers at home, but on Sunday South Kingstown proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sentinels, sneaking past 2-1. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Sentinels recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Jonah Monnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nolan Urian, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

South Kingstown's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Westerly, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-6.
