Softball Game Preview: Benjamin Russell Wildcats vs. Handley Tigers

The Benjamin Russell Wildcats will square off against the Handley Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Benjamin Russell has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It was a proper cat-fight when Benjamin Russell faced off against Chilton County on Tuesday. The Wildcats came up short against the Tigers, falling 12-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Handley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 10-7 to Munford. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly three runs.

Makenzie McCain was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Olivia Cobb was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Benjamin Russell's loss dropped their record down to 13-17-1. As for Handley, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-16-1.

Benjamin Russell suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Handley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
