Game recap: South Panola high school football team wins back-and-forth affair over Tupelo

After trading leads four times, South Panola (Batesville, Miss.) snatched the lead for good when it ran for a touchdown in the second quarter, paving the way for victory over Tupelo (Miss.) 41-14.

The Tigers were up 18-14 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run in the second quarter.

South Panola expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. SP scored two times in the third, including once on a field goal.

The Batesville school secured its victory by scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter to push the final margin to 27.



The Golden Wave's Devin Elliott played well. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown.

DeAndrea Harris was the top performer for the Tigers. The senior wide receiver caught two touchdowns. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.

South Panola went into the matchup giving up only 17.6 points per game. The 14 points that Tupelo ended with were right around its average of 11.7 coming into the game. THS came in surrendering 15.9 points per game this season. The Golden Wave struggled against SP, which came in averaging 20.7 points per game.

The Tigers also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 56-14.

With the win South Panola extended its winning streak to four games.

Tupelo (3-5) will play a 6A Region 1 game against DeSoto Central next week, while South Panola (6-2) will take on Southaven also in a 6A Region 1 game.
