Softball Recap: University Prep Wins Going Away Against West Valley

University Prep had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt West Valley on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Eagles. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Hailey Pebley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aubrey Caudell and Leigha Wood did most of the damage at the plate: Caudell fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 5-for-5, while Wood went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four runs gave Caudell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Villano, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

University Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

University Prep now has a winning record of 11-10-2. As for West Valley, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.

Looking ahead, University Prep will welcome Central Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for West Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Anderson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Cubs at the right time seeing as the Cubs are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
