Basketball Recap: Keegan Morris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Anne's-Belfield over Catholic

After flying high against St. Catherine's on Friday, St. Anne's-Belfield came back down to earth. The St. Anne's-Belfield Saints fell just short of the Catholic Crusaders by a score of 59-57 on Saturday. That makes it the first time this season the Saints have let down their home crowd.

St. Anne's-Belfield's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keegan Morris, who went 7 for 13 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. Morris is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Ange Hyonkeu was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, St. Anne's-Belfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

St. Anne's-Belfield's defeat dropped their record down to 17-1. As for Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7.

St. Anne's-Belfield (ranked first) will meet Virginia Episcopal School (ranked 134th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Anne's-Belfield will be looking to keep their 21-game home win streak dating back to last season alive. Similarly, Catholic will face off against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday up 256 places (8 vs. 264). St. Anne's-Belfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.4 points per game this season.
