Baseball Recap: Reavis Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Reavis, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Thornton Fractional North Meteors a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Rams have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jason Gustafson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isaac Velasco was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Tino Villagomez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Reavis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Reavis pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Thornton Fractional North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Looking ahead, Reavis will head out on the road to face off against Stagg at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Thornton Fractional North, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Hammond Baptist at 4:30 p.m.
