The Grossmont Foothillers are taking a road trip to square off against the El Capitan Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grossmont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Grossmont turned things around against Valhalla on Thursday. They blew past the Norsemen 19-2. The Foothillers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Jesse McCormick made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Grossmont is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-12 otherwise. McCormick was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Enzo Gaipa looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Grossmont's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 9-13 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, Tyler Holmes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Barnett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
Grossmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, El Capitan came up short against Granite Hills on Thursday, falling 14-7. The Vaqueros haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Kasen Baker made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Matthew Eckis was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
El Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15-1. As for Grossmont, their record is now 11-14.
Grossmont couldn't quite get it done against El Capitan in their previous matchup last Tuesday as they fell 8-3. Can the Foothillers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
