Softball Recap: Big Spring Beats Greencastle-Antrim for Their Ninth Straight Victory

Big Spring waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Blue Devils since April 23, 2022.

Rilee Stewart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Victoria Rinaldi was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Kendall Boring-Gutshall, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Big Spring pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greencastle-Antrim, the loss snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 17-2 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Spring will challenge Boiling Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bubblers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Greencastle-Antrim, they will face off against West Perry at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.29 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
