Softball Game Preview: Heritage Christian Eagles vs. Triton Central Tigers

Heritage Christian is 0-10 against Triton Central since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Eagles will challenge the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Heritage Christian has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Heritage Christian fell victim to Covenant Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 15-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Triton Central hadn't done well against Eastern Hancock recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Tigers walked away with a 5-2 win over the Royals. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Lillian Fillippinie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Triton Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Collins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Madi Peterson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Triton Central pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Heritage Christian might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Triton Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
