Softball Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Shady Spring Tigers

Independence lost to Shady Spring last Tuesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Independence Patriots had just enough and edged the Shady Spring Tigers out 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Independence.

McKenzie Pierce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Parks was excellent, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two RBI, and a double. Another player making a difference was Emma Simpson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

On Shady Spring's side, Kendra Pizzino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI, and a run.
