Baseball Recap: Wayland Victorious

Wayland's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Woodhaven Warriors 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 27, 2024.

Wayland's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gerrit VanLonkhuyzen, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Wayland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Woodhaven, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5.

Looking ahead, Wayland is taking a road trip to square off against Trenton at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Woodhaven, they will welcome Powers Catholic at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
