Baseball Recap: Saratoga Springs Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

Saratoga Springs proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by six) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the La Salle Institute Cadets 5-4. The Blue Streaks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cadets, too.

Brendan Kantscheidt looked comfortable as he struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Saratoga Springs got a big performance out of Jack Rigabar, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cooper Villiere, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Saratoga Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Saratoga Springs is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for La Salle Institute, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-2.

Saratoga Springs and La Salle Institute should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Blue Streaks will face off against Albany Academy for Boys at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (43 vs. 367). Meanwhile, La Salle Institute (ranked 12th) will meet Columbia (ranked 228th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
