Baseball Game Preview: Santa Teresa Saints vs. Christopher Cougars

Santa Teresa hasn't had much luck against Christopher recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Saints will host the Cougars at 4:00 p.m.

Santa Teresa fell victim to Westmont and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 7-0 to the Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Saints' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Santa Teresa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Cedillo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Christopher ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Leigh. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Matthew Anderson tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sam Guenther was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Brayden Rogers was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Christopher hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Christopher's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Santa Teresa, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.

Santa Teresa couldn't quite get it done against Christopher in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
