Preview: Morrill Lions vs. Gordon-Rushville Mustangs

Morrill is 2-8 against Gordon-Rushville since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Morrill Lions will look to defend their home court against the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Morrill struggled with assists on Tuesday (Lingle-Fort Laramie had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Morrill took a 58-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lingle-Fort Laramie. While losing is never fun, Morrill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 136th in Nebraska, while Lingle-Fort Laramie is ranked eighth in Wyoming).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Pittman Ashwin, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyler Fisher, who scored 15 points.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Gordon-Rushville, who are still winless after their 12th contest. They took a serious blow against Chadron on Saturday, falling 59-15. Gordon-Rushville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-11.

Morrill's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for Gordon-Rushville, they dropped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Morrill was dealt a bruising 60-32 loss at the hands of Gordon-Rushville when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Morrill, Jace Nelson (who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
