Softball Game Preview: Canajoharie Cougars vs. Duanesburg Eagles

The Canajoharie Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Duanesburg Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Canajoharie has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Duanesburg will come in with three straight victories.

Things were looking good for Canajoharie after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Broadalbin-Perth, falling 14-2.

Meanwhile, Duanesburg beat Schoharie 7-4 last Thursday.

Genevieve Rickert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harlee Manus, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hailey Davis, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Canajoharie's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Duanesburg, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Canajoharie suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Duanesburg when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
