Baseball Recap: Clarksville Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Clarksville had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Beech Buccaneers on Friday as the Clarksville Wildcats made off with a 17-3 victory. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 7-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Porter Murff was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he also racked up three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Braden Taylor looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he also gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Ben Moore was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Keaton Anderson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances.

Coming up, Clarksville will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Station Camp at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Beech, they will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Greenbrier at 12:00 p.m. on February 22nd.
