Henry Howard III and Kendall Lindsey provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Douglas Byrd. The longest such play in 3A Cape Fear Valley this season, the connection resulted in 80 yards.
Grays Creek extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Southern Lee, 49-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bears.
Westover's dynamic duo of Howard III and Lindsey proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Howard III threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns and Lindsey had 102 yards receiving. Keatre Evans helped Westover's passing attack out by catching four balls for 44 yards.
Ken McDowell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 168 yards as Grays Creek lost to Douglas Byrd. Teammate Dion Rackley added to the ground attack by rushing for 93 yards.
Westover's Howard III and Lindsey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Cape Fear Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Howard III has thrown for 834 yards this season, while Lindsey, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 15 catches for 284 yards. David Lovette's team's McDowell leads the league in rushing yards with 1631.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Western Harnett takes on Russell Stone's team. The Eagles are in third place, while the Eagles are in second place.
Overhills was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league.
