Basketball Recap: Clinch County Panthers vs. Charlton County Indians

After a string of seven wins, the Clinch County Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Charlton County. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Clinch County came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Indians are ranked 359th).

Charlton County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mahogany Steele out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Steele hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Rihanna Battle, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Clinch County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4. As for Charlton County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinch County will challenge the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Atkinson County will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive. As for Charlton County, they will head out on the road to take on the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. McIntosh County Academy has now lost 15 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
