Recap: Leon Cougars vs. Centerville Tigers
The Leon Cougars lost against the Centerville Tigers back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Leon was dealt a 56-7 defeat at the hands of Centerville. Leon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Andrew Newman was on fire for Centerville: he rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries. Newman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Colton Pearson, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Centerville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Zantayl Holley and Amarius Phillips who racked up six sacks between them.
Leon's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.5 points per game. As for Centerville, the win was the third in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leon will take on West Hardin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Hardin comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Centerville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Normangee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Normangee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1128th, while Centerville is ranked 378th).
