Baseball Recap: Westmoreland Takes a Loss

Westmoreland extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They came up short against the Mt. Markham Mustangs, falling 7-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 11-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Mt. Markham, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Mt. Markham's part, Jacob Donely made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Donely was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Owen Jones was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jamison Young was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

While Westmoreland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
