Football Game Preview: San Clemente Tritons vs. Edison Chargers

The San Clemente Tritons will head out to square off against the Edison Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Clemente will be strutting in after a win while Edison will be coming in after a loss.

San Clemente took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took down Los Alamitos 28-9.

A big part of San Clemente's victory came down to the chemistry between Preston Beck and his top target Jaxson Rex. Beck threw for 181 yards and three TDs while Rex picked up 107 receiving yards and three touchdowns. That's the most receiving yards Rex has posted since back in August of 2024.

One reason for the win was San Clemente's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Joshua Kerst with three. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 9.5 sacks on the season. Another thorn in Los Alamitos' side was Cade Hogan, who made 13 total tackles and defended one pass.

Meanwhile, Edison ended up a good deal behind Mission Viejo on Friday and lost 37-20. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Diablos are ranked seventh).

San Clemente now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Edison, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 5-4.

San Clemente didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Edison in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 21-17 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Chargers' Julius Gillick, who rushed for 95 yards and one score.
