Softball Recap: Harrisonburg Comes Up Short

Harrisonburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of the William Monroe Dragons. The Blue Streaks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dragons earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

McKenna Dayton led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Kayli Alvarado was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Harrisonburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for William Monroe, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.

Harrisonburg and William Monroe could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Blue Streaks will face off against Western Albemarle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (251 vs. 117). Meanwhile, William Monroe (ranked 239th) will meet Broadway (ranked 56th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
