Baseball Game Preview: St. Paul Swordsmen vs. Oxford Academy Patriots

The St. Paul Swordsmen will take on the Oxford Academy Patriots at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither St. Paul nor Oxford Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

St. Paul came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Kennedy by a score of 3-1 on Friday. The Swordsmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jacob Castellanos was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, St. Paul saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian De Lira, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Oxford Academy came up short against Santa Fe on Tuesday and fell 4-1.

St. Paul's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Oxford Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
