Baseball Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. American Eagles

The San Mateo Bearcats will venture away from home to square off against the American Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. San Mateo is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

On Thursday, San Mateo beat El Camino 5-1.

Christian Louie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. San Mateo is 6-2 when Louie allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

At the plate, San Mateo saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Bleess, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Hayato Nishiyama was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times American and Newark Memorial have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Eagles took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars.

Dillon Hsiao was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

American's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for San Mateo, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

San Mateo couldn't quite finish off American when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Bearcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
