Basketball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Brooks Debartolo Collegiate's Third in Last Four Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate walked away with it. They walked away with a 74-61 victory over the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes on Monday. The Phoenix have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hurricanes, too.

TASHANDA MADZVIMBO was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 14 on his way to 18 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The contest was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was SIMEON JORDEN, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 11 points and eight rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Conor Whalen, who went 5 of 10 en route to 20 points. Whalen has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jacob Mekdeci was another key player, putting up 12 points and five boards.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they moved to 18-5 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-52 defeat against Bell Creek Academy on the 5th. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
