Basketball Recap: JJ Wetters Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fountain Valley

There's no place like home for The Vanguard School, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Fountain Valley Danes with a sharp 68-43 win on Thursday. The Coursers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

The Vanguard School got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was JJ Wetters out in front who posted 27 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. That's the most boards Wetters has posted since back in December of 2023. Matty Dessalegn was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds.

Despite the loss, Fountain Valley still got an impressive performance from Asa Almgren, who put up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Lopez-Hardy, who scored eight points.

The Vanguard School is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for Fountain Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Vanguard School has already played their next contest (against La Junta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fountain Valley will take on Dolores Huerta Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
